Graduate Programme

We are a diverse and inclusive workplace committed to fairness and, in particular, the promotion of equality of opportunity for all.

Adjustments

At HM Treasury, we believe that a diverse workforce has a positive impact on our work, and want to do everything we can to ensure we reflect the society we serve. We’re proud to be a Disability Confident employer.

Workplace adjustments

We are keen to ensure that staff with disabilities get the workplace adjustments they need to help them develop and fulfil their potential. When you join, you will be asked to complete a Health Questionnaire, after which an Occupational Health Adviser will discuss your needs with you. Some examples of adjustments we have made for Treasury staff recently are:

  • Additional equipment for staff with visual or hearing impairments
  • British Sign Language (BSL) and Sign Supported English (SSE) interpretation
  • Alternative working arrangements including home-working
  • Specialist software, such as speech-to-text programmes
  • Modification to the physical environment such as adapted keyboards, mice and ergonomic chairs

Workplace adjustments will depend on the nature of the disability/disabilities and this list is by no means exhaustive. We are open to discussing and considering a wide range of different and innovative ways to help remove barriers, creating an inclusive workplace for all.

Adjustments in the recruitment process

HM Treasury is committed to be an Equal Opportunities employer. We wish to ensure that all applicants are treated fairly and appointed solely on their suitability for the role. So, we welcome the opportunity to speak with you to discuss what adjustments can be made to help you demonstrate your full potential whatever the type of assessment used.

If you require any adjustments to our recruitment process, please let us know on your application form or contact us via the details below. You’ll be able to discuss your specific needs at each stage of the process with a member of our recruitment team.

Disability Confident Leader

HM Treasury is a Disability Confident Leader. This means we’ve been recognised as an employer which is confident and leading the way in recruiting and retaining staff with disabilities. We’ll offer an interview to any applicants with a disability who’ve indicated that they wish to take part in the Disability Confident scheme, provided they meet the essential criteria for the post set out in the person specification.

If you apply via the Disability Confident scheme, you’ll need to meet the minimum requirements for the role in order to be invited to the assessment centre. As our selection process is designed to include several steps, we’re unable to assess this based on your application form alone. Whether you meet the minimum criteria will be determined by:

  • Passing the Situational Judgement Test (with adjustments where necessary)
  • Passing the Strengths Test (with adjustments where necessary)
  • Demonstrating the behaviours outlined in ‘What we’re looking for’ to a satisfactory level in your timed written questions.

Please see our page on Application advice to help you throughout your application.

If you have any queries regarding the application process or adjustments, please call us on 0845 301 7999, or email us at [email protected]
