WE CAN HELP CREATE A FAIRER TAX SYSTEM

Our work drives government decisions that shape the future of the uk.

About Us

Our values shape how we work, how we make decisions and how we support one another every day. Whether you’re briefing ministers, collaborating with colleagues across government or developing your expertise in a new policy area, our values guide the way we approach challenges and deliver for the public.

Our values

The Treasury has four values: Appreciative, Collaborative, Integrity and Open. We live our values through the way we approach our work and interact with each other. The crux of these values is that whilst the Treasury has always pursued excellence and has set itself extremely high standards, we’ll only make a difference, sustain and improve that quality by placing a greater focus on how we interact with each other and with our external stakeholders. Our behaviours are intrinsically linked to our success; alongside the Civil Service Code, the Treasury values underpin those behaviours.

Appreciative

We take time to check in on each other’s wellbeing and make sure everyone feels included. We give considered, insightful feedback, and praise where it’s due. We value different ways of working, effort as much as success, and corporate contributions just as highly as policy delivery.

Collaborative

We understand the importance of the relationships we build, both internal and external, and will always try to understand different perspectives by putting ourselves in others’ shoes. We encourage ideas and input from others, really listen to what they have to say and act on the feedback we receive. We recognise our responsibility for the success of the wider Treasury and the government-as-a-whole, and work with partners beyond Whitehall to achieve the best outcomes for the people we serve.

Integrity

We treat each other with respect at all times, but especially when times are challenging. Our advice and analysis are impartial: we value intellectual honesty, regularly question assumptions and do not rule out radical or novel ideas. We are straightforward and honest, but always constructive and respectful.

Open

We actively share information as widely as possible. We are clear about why decisions have been made, and honest when they go wrong. We recognise the value of diverse viewpoints and experiences and seek them out to improve our own understanding.
